Trading Time for Money

I tried driving Uber for a month.

The Numbers

  • Revenue: $2,000
  • Gas: -$400
  • Depreciation: -$300
  • Taxes: -$500
  • Actual Profit: $800

For 80 hours of work, that’s $10/hour.

The Lesson

Don’t pick side hustles that scale linearly with time. Pick hustles that decouple time from money.

  • Bad: Driving, manual labor.
  • Good: Digital products, consulting (high rate), content creation.

Your time is your most scarce resource. Don’t sell it cheap.
